Why are rabbits abandoned?/¿Por qué se abandonan los conejos?
Rabbits are the third most popular companion animal in the United States. Many people think that rabbits are easy "starter pets." They are often surprised that rabbits require medical care, a lot of space, different types of food, and can live up to 10-12 years. As a result, rabbits are frequently abandoned outside when their human no longer can or wants to care for them. However, letting a rabbit free does not give them a new life - it inevitably results in rabbits dying of exposure, illness, being killed by another animal, or hit by a car. Rabbits rescued by RVA SBS are the lucky ones.
What's the difference between wild and domestic rabbits?
Domestic and wild rabbits are two different kinds of animals. Pet rabbits cannot survive outside because they do not have the same instincts as wild rabbits.

Why spay and neuter?/¿Por qué esterilizar y castrar?
"Like rabbits" is a popular phrase for a reason. One breeding pair of bunnies and their offspring could result in nearly 4 million rabbits in just 4 years! This overpopulation means that two abandoned rabbits can create a colony very quickly and that many owners end up with too many baby bunnies and not a lot of options. Spaying and neutering are the only way to prevent overpopulation in rabbits. It is also important for their health- cancer is very prevelant in female rabbits that are not spayed."Como conejos" es una frase popular para una razón. PreventALitter Low-Cost Rabbit Spay/Neuter in RichmondSpaying and Neutering Basics
